This yoyo is basically (as my good friend Vegas let me in on) a generic version of Team Losi’s Da Bomb. It is in a cool clear finish and looks neat while spinning. It is a little light, but I can perform all my tricks (even cold fusion) with it. I think this yoyo could be comparable to Yoyojam’s GatorJam as a good single-handed compulsories yoyo. It is adjustable gap, and with the gap on the small side it loops a lot like a Proyo II. On top of that it is generally cheap. This one is the yo I would most like to have learned to yo with, because it can do everything. The poor man’s TBB without the annoyance of BPT. A (pardon the pun) VERITABLE must-have.

For the longest time I’ve gone without owning a “Da Bomb” or “Cherry Bomb” mainly because I already have more than a couple “Variflex Pro” yo-yo’s, but now I (at least sort of) know what I’ve been missing out on. The Variflex Pro has an ABEC 1 bearing, X-Games has an ABEC 3. From what I understand it is almost the same yo-yo as the Cherry Bomb, and I was lucky enough to find it at Toys-R-Us for $2.50! The adjustable gap and very smooth bearing make it at least worth $10, which is what most decent sites charge for it. It seems to require a tight gap, at least when breaking in a new string. It loops well for a butterfly, and allows for creative Braintwister variations thanks to the long sleep time and easily mountable shape. Side mounting tricks are also heavily assisted by the yo-yo design. It feels very comfortable to hold and is quite “solid” for a relatively light (a tad heavier than a TBB) plastic yo-yo. I’ll have to try it out with some Team Losi weight rings soon….

The Variflex ABEC 1 Pro Bearing yo yo is truly amazing. It is a gap adjustable ball bearing plastic yo yo made in the USA. It easily adjusts by simply twisting the yo yo halves so that you can fine tune it to be better for looping or better for sleeping. Balance is very good as is the ball bearing. The gap is a bit narrow for string tricks. It is almost as good as the Playmaxx Turbo Bumble Bee, the main differences being that the Variflex yo yo is a bit heavier, has adjustable gap, has narrower string gap and does not use brake pads. The only place I could find it was at Kay-Bee stores and they were heavily discounted, around $3.00 for a yo yo and around $5.00 for a yo yo kit that included extra strings and a fair quality VHS tape that teaches you a few tricks. I am amazed that the major internet yo yo retailers do not offer this yo yo.

Cool yoyo! I picked up one of these yoyos thanks to Utahyoyo, who got several of them on sale and was willing to send me one in the mail. This X-Games yoyo performs just like a Team Losi yoyo, although it is made out of a different plastic that isn’t like the original Da Bomb, the Silver Series or the A Line. It’s a bit harder feeling plastic. The X-games yoyo has this weird shape that’s sort of like Butterfly-Lite. It has a wider string gap, which makes it easier to catch on the string for string tricks. But it isn’t as wide as a typical butterfly. It’s not really the best looping yoyo, although it definitely loops better than your average butterfly yo-yo. Otherwise, it has the same ABEC 3 ball bearing and same responsiveness as a Team Losi yoyo. Pick one up if you can fine it!

this yoyo is only ok i bought it for 2 dollars at k b toys and it’s a good but for two dollars i took the bearing axle and spacers out and used them to modify my ballistic it worked great after that but not worth the 10 dollar list price if you find it on sale buy if not don’t it sleeps for 30 sec and is only ok on the string don’t pay more than 5 dollars for it though.
