I’ve grown to have a new appreciation for my Spintastics yoyos. Everything Dale Oliver makes is ready for competition, and the Tornado is no exception. The Tornado has excellent balance and a rim-weighted design that makes it an excellent looper, yet fairly easy to catch on the string for a non-butterfly. You can get good sleep time out of the ball bearing transaxle, but the Tornado does slow down a bit on string tricks. That is probably the only major weakness of this yoyo.

Awesome all around yo-yo, but I’d still rather have the brakepads of the BumbleBee. Loops well most of the time, although not so forgiving when the string isn’t broken in or is “too broken in.” Great sleeper, the tornado bearing gives me higher RPMs on a Yomega Raider RPM yo-yo than with the stock bearing! The adjustable string gap is nice and if you want to loop like crazy just remove the O-Rings (or one of them depending on your needs) and break in a fresh string.

The Tornado is a VERY good looper if you put some Carmex (lip balm) on it. I did 256 loops the first day, But I could only do 38 with a Technic. But it doesn’t sleep too well with Carmex on it. overall this is a better looper than the Yomega Raider because the Raider is too heavy. For $15 This yoyo is a must.

Having bought a Tornado in the first grade I didn’t take great care of it, but I found it to be a magnificent steal for the price. Impressing my friends it was the first real yo-yo I’d ever used (not a $3.00 duncan) and I then soon fell in love with the wooden axle version (which I won a local competition with). Now that the Tornado2 is out, which I’ve yet to use, I think any of these three yo-yos are a very good investment.

THIS is supposed to be the technics bigger brother. It can’t be…..and I mean that because it is just plainly awful. I mean for starters it looks ugly, Stupid side pogs which are dead boring. And spin time well it has a ball bearing in it and the sleep times are awful! I bet if you have just started yo-yoing and you throw one of these I bet on an average throw you could only get about a 20 second sleeper. Now when your a near professional like me you could probably spin it for up to about 40 seconds or over. But I’ve had my powerspin and fireball spinning for much longer and they only have plastic transaxles in them were as the tornado has a ball bearing. Now all ball bearing yo-yos are supposed to spin for at least a minute or so but the tornado lacks that. Now along with it being a rubbish sleeper it is also pathetic on string tricks as well. With a single loop this yo-yo slows down on the string really bad. For example when you do a brain twister and you go for the barrel roll at the end it will lose at least 20 seconds of its sleep time which is just stupid. Also because this yo-yo only spins for about 40+ seconds then when your doing complex tricks like split the atom, cold fusion and hydrogen bomb then it will lose a heck of a lot of sleep time not giving you enough to finish the trick. Now it comes single looped if I was you I would put another loop around it because that doesn’t effect the spin time but it makes it a bit smoother on string tricks. Now there is actually a good point about this yo-yo. It loops quite well for a ball bearing because I was surprised at how well this thing looped. First time I tried loops I did 234 loops before I messed up. Also this yo-yo is pretty light as well. It is made out of bullet proof plastic so it is very durable and hard to break. I’ve bashed the hell out of mine and there isn’t one thing wrong with it because it doesn’t perform any different. Now I must admit the side pogs on this thing are quite boring. So you can change them by unscrewing the yo-yo and pushing something through the hole by the spacers. I always use an audio plug to remove them but you can use other things as well. Anyhow I just don’t think this yo-yo is good at all. But if you are a player and a collector ( like me ) then you will probably want it in your collection. But if you want a yo-yo that performs well then give the tornado a miss. Happy spinning!
