The SuperYo Samurai yo-yo. What can I say but Wow! I have a modest collection of about 300 yo-yos mainly High end and hard to get models. This yo-yo makes me want to hide them all. The Cold Fusion is left out in the cold, and the SB2 is left whimpering in the corner. From the first time I slept this thing I knew it was the Holy Grail for yoers who are into string tricks. The Flare, the Psychedelic monkey were all performed with more than enough steam to walk into other tricks (Cold Fusion, and Atom Smasher) and that was with a modest throw. The World record was not just broken with this yo-yo but Smashed and Trashed. The new record stands at 12 minutes 2 seconds! Best of all Its butterfly shape lends it to even better string catching action. The only objection I have is the Ceramic bearing it uses screams like a banshee, and you can’t lube it. Well I have wasted enough time typing when I could have been throwing down.

In my opinion the Samurai is not worth the money, but it is a pretty decent yo-yo. One downside is it can really mess you up if you do a forward pass incorrectly. I don’t really like this yo-yo very much, and I only recommend it for pros. Personally like my TBB GT better.

My thoughts of buying one of these… was when I heard “someone” had done a 12 min. + sleeper. It sounded like everyone’s prayer… had been answered! I talked on the phone to the salesperson about this “spin record” and the Samurai yo yo. I asked him what HE knew about this particular “spinner”. He said that even a “rookie” should be able to throw a 3 or 4 minute spinner without ANY problem whatsoever with the Samurai. Since I consider myself to be a “rookie”…I told him I would purchase one, for the asking price of $144.00…providing…IF I couldn’t get the “record breaking” Samurai to sleep for 3 minutes, I would be able to return it to him and he would refund my money. Open receiving the Samurai, I was instantly impressed with the “looks” and the “feel” of it…and I just couldn’t wait to throw that 3 min. sleeper. I started out slowly to get the “feel” of it and it DOES have a “screaming sound” all its own, recognizable as NO other yo yo I have EVER heard before… BUT…when it came to that “3 minute sleeper”…it was nowhere to be found. (At least THIS rookie couldn’t achieve the task at hand.) I found it to be a very s m o o t h spinning yo yo, but the one I had, didn’t want to remain spinning long enough to achieve anything, let alone a 3 min. sleeper. I felt like the balance of the “sides” of this particular one were not in “sync” with each other and it was always wanting to lay heavy on one side instead of spinning together for any length of time. At the time of purchase, I also ordered a SuperYo Black Renegade, as well as a White Renegade. I picked up the Black Renegade, and on the 2nd throw I threw a 1 min., 45 second sleeper. The Black Renegade has a tendency, on occasion, for the string to slip between the edge of the bearing and the side of the yo yo, and this I wasn’t to happy about, but the White Renegade was an “outstanding” performer. I didn’t throw any 3 min. sleepers, but the performance was superb and…with most yo yos…the more you use them…the better…they perform. ( usually ). I did get my money back on the Samurai…and I’m sure it was just the “rookie” in me… that couldn’t get it to perform up to its standards. If you want to break any “sleep” records…this SHOULD be the yo yo of which to do it with. If one person can throw a 12 min. sleeper with it, ( no rookie ) I’m sure there are many others with the ability to achieve the same results.

Actually, the Samurai never broke the world record. The myth came from a stand-still image of a guy holding a samurai with a stop watch that had 12:02 on it. The real sleeper is the yyj spinfaktor 2.2, with over 16 minute time.
PS: you should see the picture of me with an imperial and a calendar
