The Avenger is one of the newest Duncan models. Duncan is finally trying to put out some competition level yoyos instead of only concentrating on the low end of the market with yoyos like the plastic, fixed metal axle Imperial. I picked up an Avenger locally for about $15. It has a good shape that feels nice in your hand, and it’s an excellent sleeper. It has a modified body shape that’s similar to the Yomega RB2. It’s relatively easy to catch on the string for string tricks, but I found that it slows down quite a bit when it’s sleeping on the string. The Avenger also isn’t as responsive as I’d like. It’s sort of hard to wake up from a sleep. This caused problems for me when I tried to loop it, so I’d consider it a poor looper. Overall, I’d say buy it if you can get a good deal on it, because it’s fun to have a high performance Duncan.

The bearing is huge and the string gap is adjustable but “wide” in general. It’s a modified design but it leans way towards the “butterfly” direction. At least Duncan made a high-performance yo-yo, right? The spacer/bearing concept (with a fully threaded axle where the bearing rides on the spacers) is just like the BumbleBee’s but slightly bigger, but too bad there aren’t brakepads. I have a helluva time waking it from sleep, and don’t bother looping it. Also, the plastic is rather brittle — mine broke easily from a minor collision after a string breakage. And it’s totally awful with thin string, stick with a fat cotton one.

I would say this is the best (non-wood) Duncan – other than the new Freehands. To better the performance, I followed a mod where you unscrew the yo halves and reverse the way the screw/axle goes in. I also replaced the string with a thinner one and got better performance . Unlike other reviewers, I have not had trouble with the Avenger not responding. I have been able to do Split the Atom, Braintwister and Double or Nothing with it, but just barely. But hey, it still worked! It will never replace many of the great yo’s out there, but it’s nice to have another Duncan that can do some of these tricks!

I like it
I like it too mine is very responsive but gets more so depending on how you adjust it and does great on string tricks and is awsome for sleepers.
this yo yo is a great sleeper a had it sleeping up to 1 min.
I think it has an ok sleep time but you get what you pay for. After a month or so the break pads wear out and it becomes very unresponsive.
Sleeping 8/10
Looping 7/10
Overall 8/10
Great yoyo for all ages
