These classic 3 piece wooden yoyos are a must have. They’re good loopers and provide reasonable sleep times. All the standard contest tricks CAN be done on these, it just takes more work.Ý When you can do an Atom Smasher on one of these you’ll really feel like you’ve accomplished something. I find the laminated models are a little heavier and spin a little longer, otherwise the main difference is the finish.

The Blackbird was my first yo-yo. It sleeps pretty well, considering how light it is, and it’s an okay looper. I’ve noticed that it’s rather easy to perform Reach for the Moon with, so that’s a plus. The Imperial shape is very comfortable and the sleek black finish is quite striking. I’ve gotta say, I always loved the feel of wood. It’s fairly easy to land on the string and it’s very, very smooth. However, like most fixed axle yo-yos, the Blackbird does tend to slow down a bit. I can’t pull off anything more complicated than Atom Smasher with a Chain Reaction. ( Note: I own the original, not the new butterfly model. )

The Phantom is a good old school yo-yo.It is all wood .It has ups and downs such as a good paint job which is purple with black rims and it says phantom and a pair of evil eyes.The yo-yo sleeps poor but is great for loops, walk the dog, and rock the craddle. Overall it’s okay for about $4.00 the Rainbow is almost exactly the same.

The B.C. Black Bird Imperial is a pretty good yo-yo for one and two handed looping. They have good weight, great balance, and have a cool bird logo on the side. I put in a swivel and I triple looped the axle for the best loops. They are very cheap. I got three of them for only $1.99 each at K.B. Toys. I’m not too good at looping yet but this yo-yo definitely helped me learn. I can do some string tricks on it. I’ve almost done cold fusion and I can do Split The Atom with ease. The only thing is the shape and definitely put some candle wax on the bottom of the string if you want it to sleep. So I suggest you pick up one at K.B. Toys. They are at a great price and have super performance.
